It is reassuring that there are still other open boaters out there running hard whitewater and bashing up their boats! I will check into this Kydex stuff, and you have given me several good sources of ABS as well as a wealth of experience in applying it.

I recently got a 1/2-sheet (2x4') of 1/16 or "06" ABS (about $CDN 40). They called it "06" at the plastics shop, I assume it's 1/16th in mm.
They didn't have Kydex in stock because not as much formable stuff in made from it, and "its got a bit of kick to work with".
I'm going to use the thin ABS for inside support for crack repairs.
The sheet has slightly different sides - one smoother, one rougher. Which side gets the adhesive and goes down?

Dixie Boater, Do you use 3 m structural adhesive also? I've got 3 way tear punched in the chine of an ocoee. Tears are a few inches long. I'm thinking of heating to form ABS. When ready, apply adhesive to hull, heat again and stick it. Hold for a few minutes so ABS sets up then tape it till adhesive dries. Then repeat on the outside of the hull. Does this sound feasible? I don't see how to get any decent clampage at the chine area that will put pressure in the right spots. I have a couple questions you might be able to answer.
How fast does the 3m stuff go off ?
Does it apply fairly thick with some gap filling properties?
Do you know the # of this adhesive? Is it 2216? They make a lot of stuff.

I searched "3M urethane adhesive" and found these threads on Royalex repair:

The adhesive is 3532. It can be used for filling gaps, or another epoxy, but do that first and then after it's cured sand it and add the patching over top.
