Gwyn and Martin from Shaggy designs let me keep the Pagan prototype for one more weekend, so I will take it to Moosefest, together with my Sith.
If anyone wants to have a look at them or demo them, contact me.

Re: Moose....
Well, I hoped I would look a tad more graceful in the boat ... and this is in the full volume Maven, I can only imagine how it looked when I tried out Adam's low cut Maven... ... well, at least I did not end up swimming out of it this time... ...PAC wrote:Oh sure.. you knew I have family commitments! Muhahahahahahahahaha
Actually, to me that video points out a few things about the Maven:
1) It's best for boaters that have smaller upper bodies
2) Even with the enlarged Rim, Martin was still too stern heavy
3) I'm thinking the difficulty cartwheeling comes from the side of the turret interupting the flow. I'll keep pondering that....
4) I think that Maven was faster than the kayaker who paddled up ...it is a fast boat, when it's right side up
As was stated way back when, it's called the Maven for a reason .
Thank you all for all the feedback...now go try the Sith and Pagan!!!!

1) Whoa wait a second here Mr.. Designer... smaller upper bodies? Is that compared to larger lower bodies (and you can take that a number of ways) or just folks that are more "compact" than folks like the Great Gonzo?
2) I disagree on this one since I think the Maven requires an aggressive (forward) active style of paddling for control its desires. If the nose isn't held up a twitch when moving forward you find yourself in a ever-loving, ever-lasting bow stall! Neat but this tends to limit dynamic control...at times!
3) As for the difficulty cart wheeling it may be in part due to the sides of the turret damping transition. But the idea of the turret (on a C1 for volume verses having it in the plaining area) has merit. It might just need to be cut down - limiting damping and overall buoyancy! I think the length and width have as much to do with that as the turret volume when trying to swing it across axis. But what the heck do I know.... so keep on pondering.... !!!
4) I agree the Maven is fast (in a number of axis - roll , pitch and yaw ). And the more time I spend in it the more comfort I have in it. You can see Martin starting to dial into it quickly from just the 3 minute video.
I'm hoping to keep it a while longer so as to unlock some more of its hidden secrets! Hint!
As for the Pagan or Sith - don't I wish! Don't I wish!

Since I'm too lazy to change back to the Maven login....
Body wise it's all a matter of how much weight is over the boat versus in the boat. Slighter folks (either way) will find it easier to paddle, as they have a slightly lower center of gravity, and with the narrowness of the boat, it appears to make a big difference (we'll C if LEW or NZMATT (when he gets the boat seemed ) agree or not
Regarding trim, 6 months ago I would have totally agreed with you....but after enlarging my rim, and having a more neutral looking boat I've found it was even faster, and easier to paddle (you can "rock" along the rocker and therefore take slightly longer strokes). My bow is just out of the water now, but even if I dip it sometimes it stays right up, until I lean forward a bit more and sit on the bow:)
Regarding the Turret that's exactly what I'm thinking...and in more ways than you may be:)
