removing old outfitting

What is the recommended way to remove some glued down old foot pegs from my impulse without damaging the inside of boat. The pegs are those hard plastic ones glued down. Should I heat the glue and carefully cut it away at it? I dont care how it looks, just dont want a hole in the boat(at least not one thats caused by me).

Use a putty knife with a very flexible blade. Sharpen it so that it's V-shaped on the edge so that the sharp edge is off the hull surface a bit. Always work perpendicular to the boat's length where the hull surface is not flat. And be patient.

From the description of the toe pegs you've given, I'm guessing that they are the old polycarbonate style blocks which had to be secured to the hull with epoxy. I've purchased used canoes which have had various outfitting attached with this @#$%! As far as I know, there is no way of cleanly breaking the bond of this substance.

What I have done in the past was to cut away as much of the old outfitting as possible and then use a Dremel to CAREFULLY grind away the rest including the dried epoxy. I wouldn't worry about getting all of it. I'd rather leave a thin layer of epoxy than take a chance of getting into the canoe hull.

what he said..
just cut and grind from the top down. a 4" angle grinder with a sanding disk would make thos pegs go away in no tme!
