Sure H2O paddles are plastic ... and funny looking, too ... ... but they work, and that's what counts for me 8) !

oh yeah, since the FM is plastic and kinda funny looking as well, they go well together, too  ...

Ms. weeMac:

I should have noted in my earlier post that an Aquabound Edge Carbon C-1 paddle goes for around $105; the fiberglass version sells for around $80. This is compared to around $160 for an H20 C-1, $190 for a Werner Bandit Carbon, $155 for a Werner Bandit in Fiberglass, $244 for a carbon/carbon Mitchell Premier, and $225-$250 for a Galasport 3M straight shaft in Carbon/kevlar. (Prices vary from dealer to dealer.)

Well, for what it's worth, I purchsed the 60" Bandit for my 6'-3" hubby. It arrived today. Yes, half of you are shaking your heads and half are nodding. Thanks for everyone's help and discussion on the topic. I feel like I have 20 big brothers out there (well, little ones too).

And speaking of which - where are all the chicks?????? Hello! Am I the only OC-1 chick in the world???? The only one who visits this site? I am dissappointed. :( My sisters are letting me down.

My Julie occasionally lurks around here. She paddles OC1 (Viper) and C1 (various converted K boats). Don't look for a post any time soon though, she's shy.
We may give you a shout next time we're in NM though.
For the record, she gave me a break down stick for Christmas. She's the Best!

Martin, i was just givin' you grief! i bought one last year and never got to use it because i was out with my bunged shoulder. but i'm coming back..
...been using it for about a month now, and i like it! i still have mental trouble with the fact that it's plastic, but hey, our plastic boats are pretty amazingly tough, right?. the blade's not showing any hint of wear. it doesn't feel quite as nice in the water as those galasport magnums that i blasted through the the last couple years (i really liked those damned things!), but it feels good. it's pretty light and seems to be tough... we'll see.....

one thing i'm sometimes doing is this. it's probably just my poor technique (or weak shoulder), but i sometimes trip on the corner of it on the recovery. it'll catch the water and dig in. did you ever have that problem at first?

Larry, due to poor technique this happens to me all the time, regardless of paddle type I am using  .
I didn't notice this being any worse with the H20 than with any other paddles.
Thewear resistance of the blade is awesome, after almost 2 seasons of creeking I have maybe 1/4" on the blade, far less than on any other paddle I have ever used.

The hubby tried his Bandit this week and likes it! He even perfected the first half of his roll on his maiden OC-1 voyage.

Yea! Big points for wifey. :D
