Mohawk's short boats
Mohawk's website has a long essay of the design of the Shaman, but essentially zip on the Rodeo and Maxim.
There's been some video & discussion of the Maxim lately, including that it'll be available in PE...
So, what's the scoop on the Rodeo & Maxim? Is the Rodeo a "Viper 10"? How do the Rodeo and Maxim compare to other boats? What's the upper weight range for these boats? And, will Mohawk update it's website with more consistent info on the different huills?
Pat.

Short boats
Ok here is the deal with our short boats. The rodeo is based off the Viper 11. The reason the Shaman has such a long esay is the designer wrote it. The maxim has never been pushed by Mohawk because in the rebirth process we never had any around and really thought that such a short boat xould be no good. Then we formed some for an overseas order so I made one up. The world changed, it was like when the discovered the world is round. Sense the first paddle in one, I have not been back in my Viper 11 at all. the Maxim paddles like a long boat Creeks like a short one.
We will (and are) working on our web site, but there is only so much time. With this whole move going on, somethings are beeening put on the back burner.

Maxim
So I see a yellow maxim out of royalex in the warehouse. Who wants it.

I am not saying that weekend boating is effecting anything relateing to the company. Yes I will skip boating if needed, Like this sat I am working I am building up a Maxim for a customer, a maxim for me, and a couple of other boats for people who pay for things.
But i know that you will call you are tired of the Tellico.

Thanks Richard,
OK, so the Rodeo is something like a littler Viper - too wet a ride for a big boy.
And the Maxim is more of a creeker. It looks great in the vids (or maybe the paddler just makes it look good - is that you Richard in the Red Maxim with the patched stern in the latest GDI production? Nice boatin'!).
Anyone know how the Maxim carries 220 lbs?
In a Mohawk, I'm guessing a heavy guy is still best off in a Viper 12. 8'10" is pretty small. Curious about the Maxim. Wish I could see one.

Richard,
I also think that for marketing or other reasons the maxim may be a boat that would win from beeing known better. So few people have paddled it.
Can't wait for that new plastic thing you are speaking about. Since you mentionned all mohawk boats would be available in the new material my guess is that it should not be rotomolded PE, probably something else you could use your actual molds to work off with... Definitely worth some overtime to make this happen. In our aspect of the sport, and small market, I beleive innovation is one of the most valuable thing paddlers craves for.
Good luck and keep us updated!

Thanks Mohawk for making my next boat decision. It looks like Maxim #4 in PE for me in the spring. The ends of the current Maxim are getting soft from mutiple impacts and as much as I love the boat I was contemplating other designs. I hope the PE won't add too much weight!!! If anyone in the mid-atlantic area wants to take my Maxim out just e-mail me.
I started open boating in the Rodeo and had 2 of those before the Maxim. The first one had the ends cut down 4" for play and the 2nd was full cut for creeking and big water. Both boats did very well for me but I don't think I could go back to the Rodeo now. The Maxim paddles extremely dry and of course it turns on a dime. I can't say much for the weight capacity because I'm only 5'5" and 150. I've let a lot of people try the boat and the general concensus is the people that stay upright past the eddy line love it and those that flip hate it.

It's been a while since i last was in a Zoom, but I never connected with that boat. Not that I found it too edgy or anything, but I just found that the Prelude was for what I was looking for (mainly an open creekboat) much more suitable for me and not only because of the material.
I did immediately like the Maxim when I first got In Pete's boat at the NBP armada this year. I liked it as muuch as the prelude, ecxept for the materia. That part of the equation has now changed. Good!
I think the Zoom is a tad faster an may carve a bit better, but i think the Maxim is quite a bit more predictable, which is one of the key traits in a creeker in my opinion.
I am 6'1" and ~185 lbs.
