I think it is good practice to switch sides there are some moves that are just easier to so switching hands last I check there is no rule on what to do here It is what workd for you

yeah I switch hands on flatwater but I am pretty worthless paddling on the left so I'm gonna stick to offside stroke I like them more anyways challenging

your top arm is tiring because you're bending it and hence using your forearm muscle (which is small and not that strong). Try keeping your top arm straight and feeling it through your shoulders and back muscles, not your arm muscles.

Big Mike is dead on. The top arm needs to be straight so the back is the muscle group used.

As far as switchin goes, take a look at the Telli pics that will be gettin posted, no body ran cleaner lines on that crik than Lengthy and he switch.

The Tom Foster instructional video has good drills and tips for offside (and onside) paddle strokes.
