Ive been lurking for a long time now, and finally have a reason to make a post!
I recently bought my first solo boat, a used Evergreen Sequel. I am making it a bit comfier, and adjusting the outfitting to fit me better. How tight should I be connected to the outfitting? When the straps are a tight as possible, I can still move an inch or so above the saddle. I believe this is because the strap's D rings are too low or too for forward. Is this fine? If not what can I do to make it better?
Here's a pic of the boat. (those ankle blocks are just in there loose)
I think an inch or so in an open boat is about normal, even when cinched tight. Usually, low and back for the top anchors works well for me. Have you paddled it much yet? You might give it a chance before making too many changes.
Maybe some knee straps? If my knees aren't strapped down I feel really loose.
With foot pegs and straps I don't think it matters too much if you can come off the saddle. You can hold yourself in the straps with foot pressure, right?
