Canadian Canoe Museum - Members Needed!

Post by msims »

Hey all, I received this message this past week...

If you haven't been to the Cdn Canoe Museum, it is well worth it. It's located in Petorbourough (orig home of Peterbourough Canoe Co. ;-) about 1.5 hrs North East of Toronto, 2 hrs west of Ottawa. They have an incredible collection of canoes - over 800 I believe... Ranging from 400 year old dugouts found at the bottom of a lake, Native war canoes, etc... The display/layout of the museum is fantastic. My personal favourite is Bill Mason's Cedar Canvas Prospector which is on display there :-D ..

Anyway, it's an incredible museum and well worth supporting IMO, esp since it's in trouble :-(

Hi All,

Some things are just too important to let slip by, one of those things
is to become a VOTING MEMBER (approximately $45.00cdn) of the Canadian
Canoe Museum in Peterbrough, Ontario, a vital Canadian institution and a
world class cultural museum.

I'm told it is very important you get your membership in before the
March 25th, 2004 deadline, because this is the meeting to determine the
new board of Directors. (voting by proxy is allowed so anyone can be a
voting member) Information and membership forms are at:
http://www.canoemuseum.net/getinvolved/membership.asp

If you live near Ottawa there is a special benefit event for Canadian
Canoe Museum. James Raffan and many others are behind this fundraising
and membership drive for the Canadian Canoe Museum. They are organizing
a "MUSIC of the WILD" cd release and concert at the Bell Theatre at
Carleton University in Ottawa on Friday, March 5th at 8:30 p.m. details

Background Information on the Canadian Canoe Museum
*****************
The Museum closed in October 2003 due to lack of operating funds. Since
then it has undertaken a major reorganization and financial
restructuring in order to achieve sustainability and they are hoping to
reopen on May 1, 2004.

The new membership drive will see individual members of the Canadian
Canoe Museum become the VOTING BODY (prior to this, people who made
donations were not considered voting members of the organization) to
determine, among other things, future board membership and museum
direction.

The Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough, Ontario, is a not-for-profit
organization whose mission is to preserve and share the culture and
history of the canoe. It houses 100's of astonishingly beautiful and
diverse paddle propelled vessels and is the world’s largest collection
of canoes, kayaks and related watercraft.

These three people will be pleased to answer any questions that surround
the Canadian Canoe Museum.
