While sitting in your boat in flatwater, take your best forward stroke. Pay attention to the recovery, the tip of your blade should be as close to the water without touching as possible. Try to paddle naturally to make this method work. (I picked this up from Homer @Silver Creek Paddles years ago).

Tip on the ground, T-grip under your arm pit. Use it as crutch at the take-out

Have a look at the chart and discussion. It doesn't gives the "why's" but does give height and paddle length of top slalom paddlers for comparison. Good luck...edg

Any goofy sources, like Red Cross books or old camp methods that are just silly by today's standards?
