So I says...
Not to long ago, I was finishing up a run with J-taka and another friend. We were all paddling open-boats.
This old local was lurking around the take-out when we took-off. We were a little hesitant to strike up conversation, as we were in a sketchy spot on the road, and whether or not the creek was 'navigable' could be debated (although...we did just nagivate it).
Well...turns out the local is cool, and is wondering what "we are doing? What is this called?" So we tell him that we are whitewater canoers, and that we came we saw we conquered.
Guy ask..."oh i've see these kayaks things come out of this creek before... whats the difference between them and a canoe?"
We all kind of looked at each other with that...'pfffftt whats the difference' look on our faces. Justin, being the well-natured, polite and diplomatic person he is; jumped in and began to 'diplomatically' explain the differences between the two very different sports...
After about the 4th or 5th 'diplomatic' reason for difference...I go ahead and bud in...
and So I says..."Listen...here's the deal with Kayaks....You have to wear this thing around ur waist called a 'skirt'...and to paddle one, you have to be OK with that."
Now he understands... Clear as day, the difference between a canoer and a kayaker.

PS - We made sure to tell him that this was Tommy Hagg talking and not "canoers as a whole"

Ah, yes.
I've used that same punchline many of times. "It's manlier and you don't have to wear a skirt"

I don't hate kayakers. I just like to bully em. I've been hangin out with Louie too much. I've even picked up his southern typing accent.
