Paddling around Weston, W.Va

Post by Guest »

Hi,
A group of us from MI are looking to head south for Memorial Day weekend to do some paddling. Trying to stay in a 8-9 hr drive, it looks like that could put us somewhere around Weston, W. Va. I'm curious on the paddling options for class II-III in the area? Or would Tenn. area be better? Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

I think that will depend on the water levels (rain) over that weekend. Also if it rains a river you plan on today might not be one your interested in that weekend. :o
You might want to go to the AWA site and scope out a plan from there then keep an eye on the site as the weekend comes closer for levels and such. 8)
There are always a few dependable runs within your drive time window and class (youghiogheny - pa, north b of potomic - md, Cheat and New - wv, etc.). :)
Pick one river to target (like the Cheat or Tygart - WV) or plan a multi river trip like Slippery Rock PA Sat. morning, Lower Yough Loop Sat evening, camp, then Stoney Creek - PA or NBof P - MD Sunday, followed by Cheat (Narrows or gorge on Monday). Just some thoughts.
WV and south has lots to add as well - I'm just more in tune with local water around PA MD and N WV. The New of course is always fun!
You might want to map out a couple routes with alternative runs and play it by ear. Buy isn't that what road trips are for! :D
Hope it works out.
