I've just seen a 2' by 3' hole In a Nomad fixed with the bottom of a Jefe Grande hull, some West Systems Epoxy, a blow torch and a butter knife.

To make matters worse the owner will be using it on the Glen (1.5 km of solid 5 for all of the non-brits) in high water tomorrow; We're awaiting him retuning with the pieces of his boat.

Does anyone else have any stories or photo's of other such repairs of a dubious nature? As watching this one in progress has entertained me no end.

Yes feet! (closer to 1.5 by 2.5) it's a rather "well used" boat!

They would have had better odds using vinyl mastic or multiple layers of duct tape ironed on.

Friend of mine paddles an old Dancer to reach his favorite sunning rock. About two years ago the bottom cracked, and I told him about the duct tape ironed-on method. He tried it, and the repair is still lasting. Wouldn't on multiple class 5s, though.

And where it all went hairy...

It went pretty well, ie. the epoxy held, the weld was looking as good as could be expected until that last bit, when my friend got impatient and started using the flame itself to heat the plastic...
