Mad River Courier

Post by Einar »

Beaverman mentioned buying a Mad River Courier and I have my eye on one that has been in storage for a while. Apparently it is a very good solo ww tripper. Any experiences? or different thoughts.

Mad river Currier

I've had one for about 20 years. This is a very stable tripper. You can put a weeks worth of gear in it and still have good control.

I have used it in class III and had no problems with it.

Also it is well constructed and should last a long time.

Good Luck

The Courier is a deep boat (15" at center, 22" height at the ends) with a lot of volume that will swallow up a big load.

Mad River claimed it was "unsurpassed for solo touring in conditions ranging from moving water to Class IV rapids". But it doesn't have much rocker and has sharp entry lines at both ends, so I wouldn't want to run any Class IVs that require tight maneuvering.

It, like the MRC Explorers, has a shallow V hull configuration which some folks like and others hate.
