Opinions of Aqua Bound Odyssey 7 Paddle?

Post by fjefman »

Hi There,

I'm looking for a second cheaper paddle (in comparison to my Bandit Carbon) to use when paddling tandem on some local shallow rivers. My goal it to find one that is durable, functional and costs less than $100.

My internet research turned up the Aqua Bound Odyssey 7 paddle..and it seems to fit my criteria. Does anybody have any experience with this paddle? Opinions?

Thanks,

Jeff

If you are willing to go up in price just a little and want a really beefy stick...

I haven't tried the Odyssey yet, but I've been using Aquabound's Edge for the past year. It is the paddle from AB that is most similar to Bandit (scoop).

Yes, it under $100. I paddle class 5 with it....You get more out of it than you pay for it...aka - its a good deal.

They also have breakdown edges as well.

FYI, I spoke with the guys from AB at the OR show and they said the break down is only by special order now.

Odyssey is bad for in water recoveries, especially cross forward recoveries. The Edge has the same shaft and a better blade.
It AIN'T bent.

Thanks for the comments here and the PMs. I think I'll be going with the Edge model.

"The Odyssey and Edge products are available as 1pc, 2pc and 3pc breakdown.

MSRP as follows:

1pc = 109.95
2pc = 124.95
3pc = 134.95

This updated pricing takes effect Sept. 1, 2011. All product is standard and available through your local retailer."

...124 for a breakdown is pretty low

The AB guys said they stopped making break downs but would do it as a custom order though. Maybe they were wrong :)
