Open boaters in Idaho

Post by 1blade »

I just recently moved from the beautiful mountains and streams of western North Carolina to Western ruggedness of Idaho. Looking for other area open boaters to share knowledge on local rivers, flow data and camping. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nathan Cline

it's a big state....where are you? marc is in pullman if you're a vandal. if you're in donko country there are a few big boat old timers i've seen on the main payette. i'm betting you represent at least a 10% bump in the cingle blade population for the whole state.

I'm in Utah, paddle in Idaho quite a bit. Bob Fries is in Boise, he's a pretty active fella. Are you on facebook? Add me and I'll point you at some people

Nathan, I'm in Pullman WA, 7 miles from Moscow ID (Vandal town, as Oopsiflipped indicated, and the home of NRS). If you are in the Boise area there is a Cboater that has been looking for other Cboaters. He goes by the name Remoteproductions on this web site. There is at least one other Cboater in Boise that used to frequent Cboats.net, but doesn't seem to be around much. Saw him on the Cabarton run of the North Fork of the Payette last year when I met up with Smurfwarrior. Although Smurf is in Utah, he does get up to the Payettes a couple of times each year.

So Nathan (and Remoteproductions), if you are in my area lets get together - Sad as it may seem, but I haven't seen another Cboater on the water this year.

OC'ers from B.C. in Idaho

Post by Einar »

OC'ers from B.C. were in Idaho this summer

I was in Idaho this July 9 for a weeks camp with 8 OC'ers and I am planning to come back. We connected with Marc from Pullman, had a good day.
PM me your email, I'll do the same and will set up contact. If anyone else paddling Idaho wants to be on contact list pm me. Might be by in Sept. for camping, hiking, biking and hello.
I figure that the adding of 8 OC'ers to Idaho might be a state record high. In 7 days I saw only one other ww T. canoe on a truck, along the Lochsa.

Water was high-high (Lochsa: 9500 c. on July 7) and the alpine passes were still blocked with snow making it hard to jump from drainage to drainage on the back roads. Couldn't get into the N.F. Clearwater from Montana on three tries so I hid out for a few days on the North Fork of the St. Joe while the road warriors trickled into camp and while the the levels dropped. Gorgeous little creek, runs an easy 3, one crux. Had look in at Marble Creek with some Moscow locals but it was a runaway freight with logs. Passed on that but put it on the to do list at better levels.

Selway Falls was Awesome, 3 times volume & Killed Colt Creek was high-high too and I wasn't willing to run it first time blind at that volume. It is tough to scout. Generally the big rivers were awesome big or flooded flat; hair raising or boredom.
Ran the WA Twisp and Methows "Black Canyon" on the drive over. Of the two the smaller but high Twisp was the most demanding, just plain continuous, no eddies, no breaks. Good though.
There was also a seperate group of friends, 5 B.C. OC'ers, on the Middle Fork Salmon at the same time, raft supported. First reports coming in say challenging high water but a good time.

There are OCers in Idaho but the rugged back country makes contact harder when you are on the road; no cell & no text, so we just set up a home based paddler to clear messages. Thanks Linda.
The high levels restricted the choices this year but it is still great country & friendly people.
