AC/DC

Post by ezwater »

Kaz, do you know if the AC/DC was designed to be paddled "forward" in fishform orientation for downriver, and with paddlers "backward," facing the other way, when racing slalom?

Hey EZ,
I believe that was John Berry's original intention with the boat.

Is the boat that different from one end to the other? I should take some measurements some time... but it never looked that much different to me (being my parents boat I never paid much attention though).

I do know that the thwarts John glassed in are not reversible on our boat though.
Keep the C!

I have a single B&W photo of the boat being raced in slalom. But while it's easy to see which way the paddlers are facing, telling the orientation of the boat, in the water, is very difficult.

Without actually measuring the boat, I can say that the bow is deeper than the stern.

Looks to me like a nice Prospectorish tandem. It certainly has higher shearline in the bow.

Lucky for the bow paddler that there was enough room in the boat to do that cross stroke or the bow paddler would've been smacked upside the head! Hmm--the things you don't know that are going on behind your back...

Try it some time, much better leverage for Gunnel bracing and selfrescue practice
