Canoe rocker

Post by HarryA \../ »

Hello all,
As none of you will part with your Mad River Courier/Guide I am
building my own solo canoe. It is based on the Chestnut Prospector which I scaled down 10% to 14.4 ft, etc. I have felled a basswood and
an ash tree for the hull and the trim. I will slab it into boards with the
chain saw as soon as it stops raining in NE PA. Now the question.
How do you determine the amount of rocker a canoe has?
The Chestnut Prospector rockers starts near the amidships and
slowly moves up blending into the stems (i.e. bow or stern).
At the 7' from the center it is up about 3.75" but continues in to
the stem. Perhaps at the 4" waterline? Anyone have a technical definition or a good guess?

www.bearmountainboats.com (or something like that) sells plans, and have an excellent book on boat-building. They have all their hull coords available in this book, or you can buy the plans for $90...
