Slalom racing

Post by Yukon »

I have a brilliant idea of getting Slalom racing going up here for kids. I think it would a great sport for some kids and i would put money on some of them going far with the sport. I have never done it or been in a race boat. So thinking of tracking down some boats and gear to get it started. If anyone has a lead on some boats maybe a club somewhere has some old stuff not getting used. Shipping to the Yukon will be a logistical challenge.

I am also looking for recomended resources, books, videos, coaching manuals, course set up etc. Is anyone know of something that may already be packaged for new clubs?

One thing that will be a big challenge if we get some kids going is competiting with their own boats. It will be hard to transport them south. Anyone know if borowwing boats at races is a realistic option?

Thanks for any info any one has

Maybe CanoeKayak Canada could help? They certainly have a list of clubs out west;

It probably wouldn't do any harm to try contacting some of the clubs that do slalom - they might have resources to share.

For some technique tips, try;

and the British slalom pages have a lot of useful stuff on them;
