Dagger Nomad as C-1?
Has anyone ever done a conversion with this boat? What are the thoughts from the community as to the potential for this as a C-1 creeker? Thanks!
Peace Pow and Paddling!

I have never paddled one but have considered doing a conversion myself. I have run into several folks on the Plateau paddling them and all have said they liked them.

it'll work, but it's a real creek boat. I never paddled one, but i bet it's probably not much fun on less than IV+ or V. for class 3-4 i would lean towards a boat with edges....more fun imo.

I disagree, it's not the grade, but the style of river that will effect enjoyment... Having been a big fan of that other "real creeker" I find that style of boat is awesome fun on things with rocky features, things to spin on, splat on, boof on... but paddling something bigger, faster and wetter it becomes more of a case of paddling agressively along long lazy arcing lines, running over all the small features.Larry Horne wrote:it'll work, but it's a real creek boat. FWIW If you're are/were a kayaker, compare it with any other choices as a demo butt-boat.

I've never been much of a kayaker, and most of what I'd be running in this boat would be of the low-volume, rocky variety, so I guess the consensus is that this would be ok? Just out of curiosity, what boat is the "other creeker"?

I think he's talking about a Jefe.. right? You can paddle my Everest C1 when we paddle together this year and you'll appreciate the edges I think. Daggers are known for having leaky cockpit seals. Every one I've owned was wet. As for its conversion qualities, I have no idea.

I was talking about the Jefe, I went from a K1 Nomad, to a C1 Jefe... I would think that the Nomad will suit what you're looking to paddle well, though it would be worth trying smurf's Everest if you get the chance.
And yes, dagger does have issues with leaky thru-bolts; I sealed mine up permenently with sikaflex in the end.

Re: Dagger Nomad as C-1?
i'll stand behind my comment. all of that stuff josh mentions is great fun in a boat that's more lively. but most likely you wouldn't be playing around like that on class five. on class 5 you probably just wanna survive. and That is exactly what a nomad is built for.
actually though, now that i think about it more. it's really just a matter or your paddling style, rather than river style or grade, that will determine if the boat is good for you or not.

Re: Dagger Nomad as C-1?
I like my Karnali. It seems to be a compromise between the edges of the Jefe and the soft chines of the Nomad. The only thing I don't like is it starts narrowing in the bow a little too soon to allow a comfortable spread for my knees. More flat bottomed/hard chined hulls seem to provide more room. There is no perfect boat. If you have your eyes on a Nomad that can be had on the cheap, I'd go for it.
