Mohawk Phiend Prototype - Rolling Video

I fixed up the Phiend to run the Upper Yough later this week at Armada. I took it out to a rolling session this past weekend and had it available for everyone to jump into it. Josh drove out an hour+ to try the Phiend and the Ion.

While he liked the Ion he couldn't really fit in my Ion with his butt hovering 3" off the saddle. The roll never really came. Even still he got a few good enough trys that his first Phiend roll came very quickly.

Yes the boat will be formed in AR, and assembled and shipped out of
Chatt.

I think the Phiend Prototype has the edge on roll over the Option. I'll have a much better feel for the Phiend after Friday's Upper Yough run.

Wow. Think I've said it before, but I can't imagine a boat rolling easier than an Option.

My question will be, how does it compare to a wooden StinkEye? Looking forward to flipping a more diverse field of boats. I've never met a boat that I couldn't swim out of .

The Phiend in the flatwater rolling department reminds me of the Detonator. Just being mentioned with the Detonator from me is about the highest praise I can give the Phiend. The Det is my gold standard. While learning to canoe I never once swam out of the Detonator in Class 1-4 rivers and only 3x ever swims out of deep holes (zwicks,national,tumble home) I swam more in the Option in 2 days vs all my other canoeing combined....it took many pool sessions to put that situation right this winter.

The character of the Phiend is to stay open after failed rolls just like the Det and not wanting to close down the gunnels hard. If you can float laid out you are going to hit many 2nd tries. I commented to Richard that the prototype seemed a bit wider than I would prefer. He said the poduction Phiend had addressed that a bit. So we'll really have to see how this all shakes out in plastic. But for now I'm real excited to see whats up with this kick rocker design on the Upper Yough tomorrow. Ed Powers and I are going to tear it up....and I hope thats figuratively. I'm a little jazzed thinking about the chances of busting that fiberglass wide open in Time Warp.
