Re: The "Shacho"
Gorgeous plug! That was a lot of sanding and polishing...
Hull looks a bit like an open Amoeba...
Speaking of the Amoeba, how many have you made so far? The more I paddle it the more I like it - I think you have a real winner there if more people hop in it!

Re: The "Shacho"
Adam, tell us about the Ameoba. I saw the original on the Took many years ago and didn't get to talk to the paddler who was in it. It has much less volume than a Hornet, but to me very neutral lines. Does it have an edge?

Re: The "Shacho"
Not to take away from the Shacho...
the Amoeba is very fast, very forgiving. Though it appears to have a hard chine it doesn't paddle like a squirt boat (viper, etc...) - you can carve with it but you're not going to be penalized in bigger water (nor will you be able to squirt it...). Bow is the most forgiving I've paddled yet, and much faster than I'd thought given it's bluntness. Front and side surfs amazingly well. If you like "surface" boats, bigger water, speed, and surfing I've yet to paddle a better boat. If you like to cruise and squirt, then the Viper is much better of course.
If you, or anyone else are around the Lake George / Saratoga Springs area (NY / Adirondacks) let me know and come try it out!
I do have an open boat I'm thinking of purchasing... if the Shacho paddles anything like the Amoeba that might be next after that...

Oh, an OC1 with the bottom similar to slalom C1s? This is the boat of my dreams (and my computer's dreams too)! How soon is soon?
Paddle solo, sleep tandem.
Re: The "Shacho"
Neat. What's the name mean?
Re: The "Shacho"
In the Native American language "Sachem" means chief. In Japanese, "Shacho" means big boss. Makes me wonder who first discovered America.

Re: The "Shacho"
Since our "native" Americans immigrated from Asia about 18,000 years ago, it's quite possible that they shared some ancestry with the Japanese.

Re: The "Shacho"
Any more info on the boat... or comparison to the Amoeba design wise?

Re: The "Shacho"
Hey Adam,
I never even considered the AMOEBA when I designed this boat. I can see how you might think it's similar though. The SHACHO is wider and not as hard chined.
I plan to start building the mold this week.

Re: The "Shacho"
The first half of the mold is complete. Waiting for more fiberglass to start second half.

Re: The "Shacho"
The second half of the mold will be finished this week. A couple weeks of curing, then the first boat. Demos will available on the Fife section of the Deerfield R.
