How many boats do you own? (kayaks dont count)

My collection of boats expresses the diversity I enjoy within the sport of canoeing. I’ll group my canoes by category. I have…
2 tandem canoes for slalom racing
1 solo canoe for slalom racing
1 tandem down-river race canoe
1 tandem for ww recreation
2 solos for ww recreation
1 solo for ww instruction
3 tandem wilderness river canoes
1 solo wilderness river canoe
1 tandem big lake/sea canoe (with rudder)
2 tandem quietwater sport canoes (freestyle)
2 solo quietwater sport canoes (freestyle)
I wish there were more northwoods paddlers on the forum so I wouldn’t have to communicate with mostly Canadians regarding, say, the best wilderness canoe. Still, I like this forum. I keep learning things reading all the posts. (But, as an aside, if anyone is interested in canoeing in the Sea of Cortez, or the coastal waters of British Columbia, or the north country, etc., I can contribute some info. I doubt, however, that I’ll ever contribute any suggestions about how to run gates, or how to flop around in holes. Seems everyone here already knows how to do that).

? Can you describe? I have a sea kayak, my only personal K boat, and while I do enjoy it there are many times I'd rather be on the salt in a canoe of some sort...Bob S wrote: 1 tandem big lake/sea canoe (with rudder)

My small fleet of boats consist of...
Dagger Caption
Whitesell Piranha
Whitesell Descender
OT Appalachian
The Caption is set up solo and used the most as of late. It has the least number of patches of my solo WW boats. They all get some use every year.
The Piranha is 18 yrs. old, but in fantastic shape. It's made of the good, tuff Royalex. Thinking about taking it to the Cheoah for my next trip down that fun run. It runs very dry in the continuous stuff

I parted with my Whitesell Piranha (the one that contributed a spare thwart to Michael a couple of years ago) of that vintage and I miss it. At least it has a good home with someone who uses it more than me. Now I get by with:
- Millbrook Prowler (if I had to live with just one boat this would be it!)
- Also from Millbrook- a Fanatic and an old end-hole C-2
- Mad River Howler and Explorer
- 2 Perception Slashers
- Dagger Cascade and Dimension
- And the latest and greatest- an Esquif Spark. I am having a great time with this new boat, but I need to find some real whitewater to test it.

race boats are so fast, i bet its in the speed wing.
In answer to the question about my canoe "(with rudder)." It's a Kruger Cruiser (krugercanoes.com)--18.5 ft, 36 in. beam, almost 90 lbs. When I bought mine from Verlin Kruger (now deceased) it cost me $3200; it's now almost $5000! It's a great canoe for its intended purpose. I wish, however, that I had asked Verlin for a lighter lay-up. My wife complains bitterly during long hauls up the beach at low tide. But the weight is there for a reason; we were driven hard onto a rocky beach once, straight on--didn't hurt it a bit. I'm sure the boat is not as fast as a high performance sea Kayak, but we found we could run faster than a Kleper kayak on our recent trip to Baja.

Ya'll got me seriously beat, but you have also inspired me to increase my fleet!
1 Mad River Outrage
1 Savage Superfly
1 Cascade (I don't use the D word any more)
1 Blue Hole (Evergreen) OCA
1 Russian cataraft
0 kayaks. (You were asking about boats, not girl boats!)

Most of my paddling buddies say that I have too many boats, but I think they are wrong and that I don't have enough yet:
Tripping:
- Old Town Discovery Scout
OC1:
-Pyranha Prelude
C1:
-Shaggy Sith
-Robson Finkenmeister
- Drakkar Whelelboy
C2:
-Noah America
So, I still lack a slalom, squirt and OC2...
