Soon to be a classic
I am waiting impatiently for "Let It Rain: A Paddler's Guide to the Rivers of New England, New York, and Eastern Canada" (http://www.neguidebook.com/).
With Alden behind it I am sure it will be classy and classic.

My favs are: "Texas Whitewater" by Steve Daniel; "The Lower Canyons of the Rio Grande" by Louis Aulbach; "A Gringo's Guide to Mexican Whitewater" by Tom Robey; and "Colorado Rivers and Creeks" by Gordon Banks.
But, you can't say enough about Backroad maps, topo maps, and state-wide rainfall gauges (real-time).

Jim,
So many opinions . . . so little relation to reality! (It's a shame.)
Yes, "App. Uprising" is not exactly a "book" but then again, I'm all for Taureaus being called open boats and blurring the lines in general and all that. Also, some fans have expressed the desire that the new App. Uprising include both Deckers Creek and the Russell Fork -- oh yes, with some C-1 headcam footage?
I make demands, I know. That's what I do.

It's a fantastic book but not exactly what I was refering to. We need to make a video version of that book one of these days... right Paul???deriverance wrote:Paul Mason and Mark Scrivner's "Thrill of the Paddle" all around good intro to whitewater. Mostly depicts styles for OC1 and OC2, though I think C-1 ones might be mentioned...

Whitewater of the Southern Rockies is my new favorite. Even if you never plan on paddling out there, it has tons of awesome photos. Good beta for tons of runs if you're using it as other than a coffee table book as well. Lead me to several new runs in Colorado this summer and I dream of exploring some of the overnight slot canyon runs in the southwest. A must have., imho.
Les rivières sportives du Québec by Éric Leclerc. This book was more then needed and an excellent reference. Best book for QC rivers.
Thrill of the paddle has been by my toilet for a few years now and read regularly. Even if it's just for quicky flipping the pages and looking at the little animation in the top corner Best book for paddling !
Yes yes Paul nows about it...don't worry !

Man, you want to talk about Quebec, you've got to get back to the Old School.
All the French I know I picked up from Giles Fortin.
Don't even get me going on that new Colorado guidebook. I love it. It just has that "certain spirit" (as Miles Davis said of Cannonball Adderley), that "how do you say?" about it. I weigh it in my mind against CRC II and there's just something about the personal touch that Evan and Kyle gave that new book. They are definitely "LDS" (Licensed Drop Specialists)! I always think it's cool when I read a book and think, "Now those are guys I'd like to go boating with." And some of the runs they talk about in there -- man! One thing I LOVE about that book is those "interlude" pages with quotes on them and pictures -- the Mark Twain one is GENIUS and the Doug Ammons one and the Big South one -- I loved those. The pictures paired with the all black and the quotes -- perfect.
"In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary." (Although of course one could make the same case . . . for maps . . . )
But nice work, guys. (I try not to hand out these types of praises too lightly, but then again any affirmation I might have offered in support of Craig's boating abilities voids this statement.)
