If you want photos check my blog Taking a dry line is the aim of the game BUT it is but is not always possible, looking at your profile pic I don't see how that is going to be dry. In some long tricky rapids it is not possible to empty your boat and end up paddling a bathtub full of water at the bottom, that sucks.
Drilling holes in your boat you paid lots of money for is going to be a painful process, every time time I go on the river now I am glad I took the pain!

@Phil, yes water does come in through the holes, but I comes in the big hole in the top too, the difference is that the water comes back out of the holes in the sides. I have foam glued in the hull and with my legs in there as well there is very little space for water, i guess I carry not more than 10litres of water about. this is way better than sometimes having a completely empty boat but most of the time having a boat full of water. i normally fill up pretty quick playboating so am not worried about it effecting the performance too much, it might even be better as the lighter boat will surf higher on the pile for longer and make more tricks possible.
keeping on thinking and keep those questions coming the more people who start to think about this the quicker we can develop the idea and find the best solution

ohYes - been known to purposely take on water when play boating anyway, a little water helps sometimes....

you notice any differences when rolling?

James, have you thought about using a scupper valve with a flap to prevent water flowing into the boat? Like this-- http://www.cedarlakesales.com/dlrindexs ... +VALVE.htm

Might not hold up in a whitewater environment. I think I've seen them with metal flaps.

On your website it says to measure the waterline with the boat empty. But then it says to get a friend to measure since it's hard to bend over and mark the canoe without falling in.
So do you measure the waterline with you in it or completely empty?

@Randy
Sorry, sometimes I am not as clear as I mean to be...
I mean sit in the canoe when it hab no water in, empty and then mark the water line on the outside, it is easiest if a friend does this so you can keep the canoe flat.
I found that if i tried t lean over to look at and mark the water line i tilted the canoe and it all went wrong.
@ncdavid
one way valves jsut make a simple system complicated, you don't need them. paddling an open canoe on white water is a wet experience NevaFull just helps to get the water out of the boat quickly. Lots of people have asked me about water coming in the holes at the sides, it doesn't matter there is a much bigger hole in the top where most of the water comes in.
Maybe I will try to do some filming to show how it all works if enough people are interested
Stay safe
