Thanks for the email Gonzo, very informative!
I just bought that Acrobat that was over in Seattle. I should have it by middle of next week! Can't wait!

AH.... noted!
Check out this vid... looks like a guy converted a butt boat squirt to C-quirt using an exterior lap belt.

Question for you sage builders out there- if I would like to refinish my squirt with a different finish what would be the best way to go about that. Also, shred cutting it to shorten it... is it as easy as it sounds? I'll see how it floats in a few days but would like to know how to do that. Thanks!

1) Depends on what you mean by re-finish... redoing the seams or cockpit rim = not bad. Regelcoating = not worth it (from a cosmetic standpoint).
2) take some volume (and length) out of the bow and stern shouldn't be too bad. Cut, tape, float, re-cut, tape, float until you get it where you want it. Taking more volume out (cutting the whole thing down) I don't think is that bad, but I've built a few now. The first few where learning experiences:) It's all in the prep, and finish work. The actual taping of the seams, though a bit tedious in a boat that long / thin, i don't think is that bad.

I think my first Acrobat (1/2" cut) was 11'6" long. My last one (master cut) was 9'9". A bunch of volume was cut out of it too. At 180lbs. I'd run class II in that one. PAC now has my old master cut. He also has a full cut. Alden put up pics a while back of the most dramatically cut Acro I've ever seen. I think it's in DC. Very short & a very large cockpit.

Refinish- there are a couple of ways to do this.
Easiest/best (but most expensive way) is a two step process:
step 1) Sell squirtboat
step 2) order new squirtboat with the graphics you want.
Keep in mind that the finish is done in the mold, so changing it and getting a good finish is not as easy as doing he original.
Easiest/cheapest way is to go over it with some fine sandpaper and then spraypaint. It won't look great, but will look ok, but the original color will show through when it gets scratched- so you'll have to do touchups.
But dood- it says "C-1" on the boat! Part of the fun of older squirtboats is the retro graphics.
rechop- Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's tough, it just depends on the boat, the paddler, and how much you take out of it. Go slow, take a little bit out at a time, and remember it's a lot easier to cut more off than it is to put it back on. But at least you won't have to worry about footroom.

I completely missed the "C" - "brought to you by the letter C and the number 1".
