Speaking of stability, my vote for the Worst C1 is the Perception Spectrum. It was a factory-converted kayak that had no stability in any direction except in a straight line, where it barely turned at all. Did nice popups, though.

I agree with Bob P as far as the Perception Spectrum is concerned. I didn't think I would discover anyone here who was old enough to admit they even knew of the Spectrum yet alone has paddled one. I had one for ABOUT a season and gave up and ordered the K1 outfitting from it's sister ship the Eclipse and turned it into a kayak ...and promptly sold it!

After the Spectrum, I actually converted a Dancer to C1, which was a much better boat overall. That one was replaced after a year by the new Gyramax. A real C1 that, in spite of some of the opinions here, I liked a lot.

As Dan indicated, scroll down to 5. Solo Open Boats (i.e. skip past the kayaking) and if you wish 6. Design and Performance Innovations.

Dan, Thanks for including us.

Worst boat?? That's easy: anything that comes with a sit-down seat and a double-bladed paddle.

Best boat: For all-time personal fave, I'd pick my SuperBat -- take it anywhere, from flatwater slalom to Grand Canyon.

But I guess this mag does't know C-1's exist....

Reminds me of the lady in the office on Monday mornings:
"And did you shoot the rapids in you kyy--yak this weekend???"
