let me rephrase...

Are the people that are cracking up Zephyrs, braking them in the same place that they've always damaged boats in the past? I assume that they were in ABS before, but is the damage being done consistent with prior damage.

Off side on mine not wear there was alot of wear

There was alot of wear in many other places, places where I had hit rocks without any hint of a crack. Because the boat is less rockered in the stern I do hit it when boofing, ledges. I learned to take a boof stroke, then lean forward, or use angle.

Most of the time when a boat has damage with me has been my onside right where my knee is. The zephyr was different though, in the stern on my on side. I did notice the boat to be heavy in the rear when paddling. But the boat stern weight does make this boat very dry, I agree lean forwar might help reduce some of the impact on the stern. The Zephyr is a wonderful boat even though I cracked mine.

Zephyr Cracks

Post by billcanoes »

Mine was damaged far less than any royalex boat I owned and never got cracks- to be honest I was impressed with the material- other than adhesion

maybe its the material of the future- for non sglass/carbon boats- since ABS seems less sturdy than before

I wonder if a few degrees in cooking temps or storage temps plays any part... or is it just hit with the right force in the right spot regardlss of any other fsctors?

I agree with Bill

With all the responses I wonder if it is the back thwart, resulting in some unusual stress. I will email Eli and Jacque in case they have not seen the thread. This material is much more durable than ABS. The past year and a half in the SE was almost like creeking all of our rivers, and my boat held up great till the crack appeared in the stern.

...rear thwart....shortened mine a little bit

Post by bigspencer07 »

Wendy,
I don't know if has any effect but I did notice this and shortened mine just a little. Haven't had any crack, but my realm of paddling has been pretty lame as the thumb has to be babied this whole year...
Nice heads up, or should I put it.."torsos forward" on the Zephyr-Boof.....
