Not just for whitewater Edward Gertler has a not so much a "how to" but a where to go of all types of rivers. There are at least 3 books. "garden State canoeing" for NJ "Keystone sate canoing" for pennsylvannia, and another combining Delaware and Maryland.
They are atlas's of the river ways.
