take yer time

Post by Longboatin »

I 2 have one o them acrabats. I'd suggest put some time in the boat afore ya go choppin. As it looks good to do what yer tryin, namely learnin to squirt. Might be me, but I expect serious time in sucha differnt boat before you know what to change. Besides nice examples such as what ya got, are gettin few an far between, I imagine any resale value would hinge on original quality, not the remaining example of learning to chop.

Yeah I've got a long way to go before I know if it would be a good idea. Might just save for a Ceemweaver if I really get into squirting. Thanks for the advice.

Longboatin, How is that Acrobat working for ya? In hindsight I should have kept the boat, it would be the perfect squirt cruiser for the Thompson Canyon here in BC.

TGG!

That's a nice boat! (I'm assuming it is the "tiger stripes" one). One of the longest squirt boats i know of, so it has indeed found a fitting home!

Got it!
Cut the seat down to 5.5" from 7" , added kneeblock and then took it out for spin.

Here's the vid- http://www.vimeo.com/17541757

Could you Cquirter types check out my trim and see what you think. On watching me get into it I noticed I wasn't sitting on the actual saddle, but on the rim. Need to get further into the outfitting.

WARNING- There is NO gnarly waterfall class 6 narlz in the above posted video, just a bored guy in a tiny boat. Skirts are involved, you have been warned.

Was really fun, and I liked how the bow and stern didn't want to resurface on a vertical path but wanted to fly up like a wing. Can't wait to get comfortable and start throwing it in the current.

After seeing the thing first hand, I'm really happy with how it looks. If/When I move it, you have right of first refusal :)

First off, DON'T YOU DARE MESS WITH THOSE GRAPHICS!!!

That is a sweet looking boat:)

A few comments, all meant to further your cquirt:)

1) You are indeed a little stern-heavy. sitting IN the boat more will indeed help. Your knees will likely be up against, or undernearth, the cockpit rim. Ouch, I know. I made a little "backrest" that helps keep me forward... most of the time.... Keeping the size of my thighs down (less cookies  ) helps too.

2) Looks like a good volume for a cruising squirt for you - cartwheels galore, bow and stern stalls and squirts, perhaps even a short mystery at the right feature. For a dedicated mystery machine you'll have to chop it lower.

3) Keep it long for speed and to cruise, shorten it up if you want to play more.

4) A few technique tips..
a) this is a low volume boat (as you seemed to notice) - rather than a dramatic "pump" it will respond best to a graceful fluid transfer of weight. Given how it trims out I predict you could easily to no hand (or paddle) cartwheels with the right body motion.
b) weight shifts will help you go straight and cut the stern under quite nicely.
c) When trying to get the bow (and even stern) down, start with very gradual angles - when you have mastered those you will have a better feel for the boat, and then attempt steeper angles (and steeper cartwheels).
d) Overall, have fun! that's what it's all about. the above pointers are there to hopefully reduce frustration a little and quicken the learning curve.
e) If at all possible, come out for the Cquirt fest! You'd have a blast and learn a lot. If you can't bring the boat, no worries, I can bring a very similar Acrobat... and a few others (this goes for all)

Roger that Adam, she's staying with the same makeup. :)
Thanks for the tips. My squirt book (Jim's) should be here tomorrow. Can't wait to read that.

Ref the seat, I had my stohlquist bunny suit on under the pants so that made it a bit tight to squeeze under the lip. Will start paddling without a lower underlayer now that I know I can roll it.

I'm not happy with the thigh straps at all.. when properly seated I can still lift my butt off up the seat quite a ways... the knee block and deck are doing good at knee control, does anyone just run a lap belt and knee block setup?

Thanks for the input, I need all the constructive comments I can get!

Would love to make it to CSquirt this year, I'm planning on ALF for sure and will start looking at the squirt event too.

One of my acro's is set up with a lap belt - which I refuse to use. Those things really scare me!

I have moved the strap attachment point closer to my crotch in a few boats - that seems to help if the knees are well taken care of.

Beaver tails (thigh braces) that attach to the cockpit rim help a tremendous amount too for some folks.

I've found over time that if I pay attention to what my upper vs. lower body is doing, an isolate movement to most of my upper body (except when weighting part of the boat) I say in very well. when I forget, and try and "reach" is when I get in to trouble. This happens at the beginning of every season

The Squirt Book will help a lot. There is a lot to learn in there... I suspect most of us tadpoles will be picking up subtle hints from their for the rest of our lives.
