Skirt question...
by Dave P
Okay, I got an X C-1. I'm liking it enough to want a better skirt for it. Is it advisable to get one off the rack or should it be special ordered? What are the differences?
Thanks in advance!

An X you say...

I too paddle an X and was using a skirt designed as for a K. It worked but was blowing off quite a bit - and always at the wrong time.
I ordered a special C skirt from Mountain Surf and now I ask myself - what was I thinking! Why did I WAIT! What a difference!
I didn't get the boom proof model (both a + and -) and had it customized to fit both a ZWO and X (my current boats). It has a 15' tunnel and extra skirt surface to fit both and other boats.
It was pricy for me (OK i'm cheap) at $180 and I had to wait 2 weeks (John M. of MSurf stated it would take three weeks).
I'm sure others will say the same - it is worth it. You can Email or call MountianSurf with your seat placement, etc and John will be really helpful - at least he was to me.
PS I've used purchased other items off them and they have great customer support.
My $.02 - Do it!

Custom skirt

Ditto on the benefit of a custom made skirt. I started with a kayak skirt on my Vengeance conversion. After finally trimmming the boat correctly, my seat had moved enough forward that I could no longer use the kayak skirt, without my gut feeling like it was in a corset. I measured from the seat back to the back outside edge of the cockpit lip, gave the measurements to the local paddle shop owner,an avid Cboater, who then called Snap Dragon. Reinforced skirt with 11 1/2 tube heigth, 100 dollars. There was no additional charge for the C1 "cut". I had another one made for my creek C1 conversion. Love the skirts. Incidentally, after trimming out the second conversion, I found the seat back to cockpit lip measurement to be almost identical to the first boat's measurement for making a skirt. I'm curious to see if this measurement stays the same on future conversions.
