Which glue for kneepads?
by Angie Sigmund Angie Sigmund
I want to replace the kneepads in my kevlar Hornet. What kind of glue should I use to make minicell foam stick? Thanks.

I always use weldwood contact cement for glueing minicell foam. I would guess this would work as well on kevlar as it does on plastic boats.

Sand the area so it's smooth and clean. Use contact Cement (flammable kind-non-water soluble)-DAP, Weldwood, etc.... A few coats (at least two) on each side (drying until tacky before each coat), then put together with a little weight (a rock works fine) and leave overnight-you're all set!
C-ya!

P.S. Be sure to mark where you want them first!

You probably know this already Angie, but….

contact cement doesn’t allow you to set the foam pad down and slide it into place, like you can with resin. Where you first place it is where it stays, so I outline the pad position with a pencil or thin marker and then place one edge of the pad on the edge of the outline, this way you can make sure that it is ready to be rolled into the proper position. If it's wrong you have a chance to pull it off at that point and reset it, and then you can just roll it down.
I'm having the time of my life in your blue Nittany Valley slalom boat, the only problem is that my Cascade spray skirt is a little too big and keeps blowing off during roll attempts. But that's not a big problem, because I never dump this boat unless I'm in SERIOUS WHITEWATER, at least class 5 or 6, right, Kalin (Buwahaha!!)?
Good luck,
Ric Taylor
