nowhere seems to sell any paddles besides those werner rafting paddles

What kind of paddle are you looking for exactly? Werner, Mitchell, Waterstick, Galasport, Clinch River, all make really nice paddles in curved blade, wood or carbon shaft styles...look around a little before buying something. What type of paddling are you going to do? Creeking, rodeo, river running? Where do you live? If you give good information you will typically get good information on this site.

i used a wooden mitchell paddle for a number of years, and found an ache in my right shoulder (im a leftie) caused from hitting rocks under the water dissapeared pretty quickly. if you can handle the extra weight, i would recomend a nice wooden boy (or even a wooden shaft / composite blade combo). but of course, that was for slalom, so if you mainly paddle oc1 on the flat for instance, get a carbon one. iused a rubber ainsworth too, it was heavy, but had a lot of give and it lasted well, till it died in action.

marshwater, does this mean i'll be c-1 handpaddling gorilla all by myself? i have a wooden mitchell with a carbon blade, but it's been falling apart. so i've started using my trusy old snow shovel. really comes in handy in the winter too. yeah, people will laugh at it at first . . . until you clock them with it . . .

handpaddling question

I've been thinking about making a set of hand paddles. Is it cheating if a c-boater uses two hand paddles? Or do I have to use only one? I'm thinking the cross-strokes would be kind of tough if I only have one hand paddle.

Bent shaft are nice there are a few out there but don't buy one if your short cash, as once you use one you won't want to go back to the straight shaft. I repair paddles and see a lot of repairs for Werners but there are a nice paddle in use as is the Mitchell and Balily (sp) blades - Check Out Mike Yee he usualy has high end paddles.
