I've been paddling an old and rather heavy Stealth C1. I'd like to switch to a newer and lighter design suited to my 5'7", 150 lbs. frame. Any suggestions for a good used boat?

Check out a Fanatic or Fanatic 2...I'm 5'9" and 155 and thoroughly enjoy my Fanatic 2.... You might also want to check out a Zealot.... For a list (semi-complete) of boats and years designed check out: http://www.cboats.net/raceboats.html .....
If you're in the Northeast you're welcome to try out my Fanatic 2, but it's not for sale....

what a stroke of luck. i have been looking for a buyer for my fanatic. contact me if you are interested. i would like $200 for it. i am in dayton, ohio but will be at the yough this weekend.

The Fanatic 1 (designed in 1988/9) and the F2 (designed in 1991/2) will have a lot of the same characteristics of the Stealth (designed in 1990/1) you are currently paddling. The Fanatic will be faster in a straight line and be a bit bigger volume wise (but at 150lbs) you weren't too big for the Stealth.
If you decide to try one of the newer (bow forward) designs, you will notice much different handling characteristics. The Zealot (assuming a normal cut) mentioned in an earlier post will be the biggest (volume wise) of any of the newer designs and at 150lbs, you might feel like your swimming in it and you may even experience some trouble with your pivots.
The decision will also be budget based, as you can see from the previous posts, you can pick up a nice older designed boat cheaper than one of the newer designs.

Handling characteristics - feedback and some ?'s

I have an old Fanatic and used Zealot. My impressions were as follows. I'd be interested in others. I'm a beginner at c1; about 5'11" and 190lbs.
The Fanatic is a tight fit but is a lot of fun. Bow has less volume and is edgier than the zealot. Seems like more primary stability and less secondary. It also seems to pivot flatter than a zealot...could just be me.
If I exit an eddy on the offside, I can't lean forward as far in the fanatic or I will be bow squirting/flipping. With the zealot, I can paddle aggressively over the bow and not worry as much about catching a bow edge.
Both are great just different. Interested in others comments.

Your obsrevations are pretty much in line w/ the way the boats were designed.
You need to stay over the bow of the Zealot to get the most out of the boat.
Set both boats side by side and you will see that the cockpit is about two or so inched more toward the bow in the Zealot where the Fanatic cockpit is almost centered.
I don't have your bow squirting issues in my Fanatic. Are you sure your boat isn't a Stealth. At your weight the Stealth might seem a little small. Good Luck...DM
