WaveSport X C-1 bow pearling?
by dhj dhj

I was wondering the Wavesport X has a problem with bow pearling on waves. It doesn't have sharp chines for carving to keep it up, but it does have a planing hull. Also, it's fairly long for play (8'). The ends seem a little slicey and it doesn't look like it has much rocker to get up over the trough of the wave. Has anyone had experience with this boat as a C-1? Did you have trouble with the bow pearling? Any other comments on its performance?

Yep... (sort of long)

My X was doing the same thing. Most boats over 8 foot have this issue (my experience). However the bigger the water (more power) the less this was an issue.
However, to get the boat to be a better surfer at lower water (dam drought) and slicier I smashed it. I figured since its a C1 I might as well really customize it. So I took out the pillars and took a heat gun to the bow and stern (Ok, the truth is I didn't do it a buddy of mine did it - I'm heat gun challenged).
How it turned out? Well it's sort of a work in progress. However, my buddy and I agree it's now a X-play (an X and Foreplay). We think I have it trimmed out properly, as of Sunday's run on the Lower Yough. The volume is way reduced in the stern but a bit more may come out of the bow. The out fitting is tweaked but I have to add finishing touchs for throw ropes, etc.
As for the performance. At Swimmers at 1'8" it front surfed like a dream - I was able to move it around with almost no effort in a front surf and bring it back without it pearling out on me. I was also able to 360 with out issue (lower volume makes a difference) but back surfing still required more effort than I like (hence the bow may be further smashed).
Overall the operation seems to be a success. This upcoming KNeal's Armada on the Gauley will be the test on big water. If your going to be there your welcome to take it out for a test "spin"! CU PAC
