Poll: Where do C-boaters reside?

I get the feeling a lot of you guys are in Canada and the Northeast...Or are there some other Southeastern C-boaters out there? Also, are any C-boaters girls? I only know of one. Finally, how many C-boaters are also open boaters? The marque says the forum is for decked canoes and canoeists, but there seem to be a lot of open boaters (which I love, since I am one). Overall it is a great forum and fun to talk to other single-bladers.A nice change from the kayakcentric Boatertalk.

Wisconsin---yeah the "cheese" state

I live in Wausau WI., and paddle OC specifically, the Pyranha Spanishfly has been my weapon of choice for the last two years.

Believe it or not we have quite a bit of whitewater here and along the lake Superior shore line, and a growing contingent of Open Boaters.

By the way we will be hosting the Open Canoe Slalom Nationals here in Wausau next year on a newly rejuvinated course. Anyone is welcome as long as you paddle with one blade.

SE, USA C-1 & OC-1 & OC-2 & ...

The Columbia, SC area to be more precise. There are a handful of serious C-1ers in town, maybe 5% of the serious whitewater paddling/playboating population. There are more open boaters, but they are less likely to playboat and are therefore sometimes harder to see.

C-boat Survey

A year or two ago, Scott W. took a poll of everyone who was posting to this board. I'm not sure who or where those results are, but I seem to remember that there were more c-boaters from the southeast than any other region.
He also asked questions like what type of boat do paddle, How many times a week do you paddle. How many boats, How many years, etc.

I'll get Scott to sign in with some of the results...DM

Scott W. Should the survey become annual?

I just read the 2000 survey results and think that the survey should become an annual event! It would show how the community changes over time and provide very interesting historical facts such as Viking Paddles were the second most used paddle in 2000 but they are no longer being made so a different paddle may move into second spot. It could become the annual fall survey to reflect the lastest summer boating season.

A good number of C boaters in the area, plus some pretty nutzo Quebec open boaters. Several women in the area paddle OC1 and C1.

I just recently moved to Ottawa, ON and I'm LOVIN' IT! Paddler's dream town as far as I'm concerned.... very cool town. SO many boating opportunities. Unbelievable. Combine that with snowboarding, xc skiing, mtn biking, snowshoeing, rock climbing....it's paradise!!

Other Ottawa C-boaters include Tom Hewitt and Larry Norman (CDN Slalom Team) Stig Larsson and Tyler Lawlor (Former CDN Slalom Team-World Cup and Olympic teams and co-owners of Level Six clothing and gear) Mark Scriver-three time World Freestyle Champion OC1, Paul Mason OC1 World Freestyle Bronze Medallist, Chris McDermott-former National Freestyle and Slalom Champ, Ian Thompson-Former National Freestyle Team member and Massive Groove designer, Matt Bender-wilderness guide extraordinaire, Kevin from Bushtukah-new school punk and James Parsons-steep creek freek and Tekno sling king! Heck-I even saw Paul Danks cruisin' down Kirkwood Ave. the other day...

And those are just the ones I know about! I'm certain that there are others....so I reckon there'll be NO excuses for me NOT improving! I'm very excited about learning from all of these incredible boaters...and thanks to all of them for welcoming me to my new home with open arms.

I paddle c-1 (slalom, plastic), and rarely c-1 squirt (unless I see "Sir Adam" a lot more ) and rarely open boat. I have seen a handful of single-blade females.

I'm in North-Eastern North Carolina. There are 3 of us locals. 2 of us ocasionally paddle OC-1 & OC-2. I even race flatwater OC-2. Today made the 93rd day that I have paddled this year.

Colorado... Colorado... C-boater Breeding

In Colorado the c-boat is coming back alive. Currently there are 22 c-boaters on my team here in the Boulder area. Nine of which are women. I am working on an additional 6 for this coming spring. We are stuck in snow and had a clinic this past weekend near Aspen, so the flame is still burning.
Look for the Dawson Bus traveling to a race in a town near you.
