Cleaning your Camel........(pack that is!)?

Post by Space Canoe »

Hey, everyone! I just got a water bottle that you wear like a backpack and the hose is discolored from lemon water. Does anyone know what's the best way to get the dried and blackened stuff out of the hose?

TIA

Soak that sucker in a bleach solution (If you can - use a 5 gal. bucket and fill the container with about a 5 to 10% solution in cold water). Let sit for a couple days (if you can and refill with the solution one a day). Once it looks like the "yuck" has cleared place the nozzle up agains the facet and flush using house water pressure. Then wash with dishwashing soap and flush again. This has worked for me in the past. You may never get rid of the dis-coloring but at least you'll be drinking something clean.
If that doesn't do it get a small dowl rod from the hardware store, place a peice of paper towel on the tip and GENTLY ram-rod it clean from the mouth peice end.
Good luck!

PS: I now follow the wife's instructions and wash mine after each use!

PAC;
Thanks so much; I was gonna go with Ammonia, but Bleach it is!
I ESPECIALLY LIKE the dowel idea; I’m sorta embarrassed that I didn’t think of that! I’m assuming, then, that the pieces(mouthpeice/cap) on either end of the tube just pop off and aren’t glued? They feel pretty tight. (It’s a Hydrapack by Blackburn)
Thanks again,
Ric
