Viking paddle aficionados....

I was talking to Keith Backlund this weekend and he told me he is on the verge of releasing a paddle that is “very” similar to the Viking paddles some of us hold so dearly. We talked for some time on paddle design and C boaters issues with "flutter", weight, flex, etc. This guy really knows his stuff when it comes to blades - very informative!!!
Currently he plans on releasing a wooden blade with a composite shaft (target time frame end of the month) and then a complete composite by end of year. As for price he talked about it being about or below $200 (US). We will have to wait and see what the actual pricing will be.
Of course the kayak version will come out first but this flaw in his thinking was pointed out to him!
I’ll keep in touch with him and try to get photos of the sticks when they are available. Also if there is interest in these I can ask him about a cboats group rate since he will be selling them direct (and supposedly not through retailers).
Let me know and keep you posted! Maybe I can even get a demo for the next armada! :P

There's interest...!

I could most likely be convinced to shell out some clams for a "Backlund Viking paddle", for lack of a better term. Depending on the deal, maybe two....

Count me in

I know several OC boaters who would jump on it in the DC area. :D

I'd definately be interested in getting one of those paddles. I've been looking for a Viking for a while now.
