Rolling C1 outfitted for multiday trips

Post by Paddle Power »

I have a C1 (converted prijon boxer/chopper) outfitted for multiday trips with a foam saddle, lap belt, and foam knee bulkhead. When loaded with gear I have missed five rolls. Twice I rolled up with the assistance of other boaters and the other three missed rolls ended with swims (two long swims in continuous rapids).

I need to improve rolling this boat (wieghted with 3 to 5 days of gear. I also paddle OC! and C1 playboat. In the past several seasons I do not recall needing help rolling in my other boats.

My thought are is it the boat, the extra weight, or the distribution of the weight?

The saddle is positioned to the rear of the cockpit to provide for the most room forward for my knees to exit incase of a wet exit. Thus this means stern heavy so I usually load more gear forward than aft.

Any thought on rolling, gear/weight distributions would be most welcomed.

May the force of water be with you.
