Extending Paddle Length?

Post by msims »

Hey all,

Is it possible to extend the length of a paddle (at the T-grip  and still maintain some structural integrity? would a dowel w/ a kevlar/carbon wrap suffice?

Thanks in advance, Mike.

extending paddle

Mike,

I think this should, depending on your paddle not be a problem, IMO you will, as long as your extension is a reasonable length (about 4 inches or less), not even have to wrap it with kevlar or carbon, pprovided you use a hardwood dowel.
The hardest part is most likely getting the T-grip out without damaging the shaft. Once it is out, fit your dowel to the inner diameter of the shaft and then glue it in with epoxy. I would then attach another dowelas T-grip. This is pretty much the way the Werner Bandit paddles are done. You can have a look at mine if you want.

Are you gonna have time to paddle somewhere this coming Thanksgiving Weekend?

Hey Martin!

Sounds like Ottawa was a good adventure for you! :-D I will be out this weekend on a fishing trip with some friends, I won't be around to paddle :-( Besides, I need to get my drysuit >:O... I've reserved the weekend after paddling w/ the boss, so hopefully we can get together then. I'm hoping that a) I'll have the drysuit and b) Some rivers will be rising. Thanks for the advice on the paddle.. I snagged one of the Cliamax paddles.. :-)

Mike.

ps- congrats on attaining the "C-boater" status ;-)

Mike, you are only 3 posts away from obtaining c-boater status :D .
My sights are now firmly set on obtaining pain boater status  .
Get yourself a fdrysuit, there is still lot's of paddling to be done before the freeze-up!
The Magnetawan should be coming up soon due to the draw down.

martins lesson#2 of the weekend:

changing your mind about which line to take down Coliseum on the Ottawa while already on your way may lead to a sound thrashing in the White Faced Monster, followed by cartwheeling in Kahuna, but provides great entertainment for your paddling buddies...
