Cleaning up, I found some old pix from an Ocoee Rodeo, maybe 92? I've got a few of the folks identified (at least I think so) - see if you recognize the rest and let me know. Also, maybe you know if it is 91 or 92. Or 93...

[I sent Adam high res versions for Cboats.net. I put up medium res versions on my site because of space considerations...]

thanks

Thanks for the great photos of the "good 'ol days". I think the year is 1994. Dale Johnson won it that year. I don't think Frankie even designed the Ocoee untill '92 or '93. I love that aqua-colored Ocoee. Can't I.D. the paddler though. Also, there is a Caption in there, which came out in '94.

SWEET!! :D
I have one of the old white vipers like Dale was paddling. Bought from Billy Davis in 94 at Bob's Hole Rodeo. It is not 9 feet and pretty trashed but I had lots of fun in that boat. Anyone else think enders in the biiger boats looks way more impressive than these new smaller boats. I have 2 Aftershocks- Lots of fun but not the same feeling as doing ends in the Viper. Big air always looks great. Maybe they should have a classic solo canoe class at the rodeo- Really show the difference between canoes and kayaks
Post more pictures- please!!

Big air in a long boat is "so" cool... except it's hard to find holes big enough most of the year that will do it. When I started paddling our pal Roy used to be able to launch his Ocoee out of the water completely (1-2ft.) but there is only one hole aroung here that will do it.... and for 2-3 weeks per year. The nice thing about the new school boats is smaller features become much more fun, and your not the guy whose boat is taking up 3/4th's of the rack space.

I wish I did have more to post, that was the only time I ever made it up to the Ocoee Rodeo and those are all my OC pix :( We ran the river that day, though, even ran hades Hole! :D After waiting our turn, of course. A friend of mine caught a picture or two of me coming through - nothing as dramatic as those enders...

I really enjoyed the pictures :D . Brings back great memories. It was great to watch the masters get big boat enders at hades Hole in those days.

Before the Olympic course was built on the Upper section the place for enders was Slam Dunk. Slam Dunk is still there, but it ain't the same spot. The river was very wide at that location before the course was built. Most of the water fell over the Slam Dunk ledge into a nice, deep hole. You paddled up from the river right eddy and pushed your bow into the pourover. It was very easy to get a 14' boat vertical there. Unlike hades Hole, you had a nice eddy below for recovery. Easy place to roll and paddle to the bank for bailing. If you didn't nail a roll at hades Hole you could get trashed in the Powerhouse rapid :( .

i was at that one!!!! my dad and i are sitting on the rocks in the background of one of the shots!!!!! in the back ground there is a red ocoee that was my dads. he competed that year. i think he got 4th over all. not bad considering the compitition. that is eric jackson in the oc-2. i remember he and his partner flipper. the guy in the front bailed before power house, and made it to the side. eric went all the way down through power house trying a kayak role. once he made it to the bottom he finally got it up and had to hall the boat back up to the top so they could get another ride. kind of a funny.
thanks for posting the pics. i had totally forgotten about all of that. ---joey

I found and posted a few more that might be of interest, though they are not of the OC category in the rodeo  One is of Corran Addison, he has designed a couple C-1s, so he squeaks by. One is a "drive by" of the back of the bleachers, maybe you will recognize someone. A couple are of me; one of Psycho (I think) at Table Saw; and one of a guy getting a nice ender at Power House in a kayak (a nice ender is a nice ender).
