Removing paint from vinyl

Will paint removing products damage/destroy/melt the vinyl of an abs boat.
If you've had experience getting paint off vinyl I'd like to here of your experience before I get started.

HAve you tried a little WD-40, steel wool?

Haven't tried anything yet. Just got the boat and it's cold outside.
I'm just tryin to get some ideas.
Your suggestion sounds like a good one. WD won't melt the vinyl.
Sure glad it's a short open boat. I'll give it a try.

WD is a solvent so be careful. However, is sounds now like the whole boat is painted. If this is true, I would live with it or paint it another color you like. I will bet that the previous owners painted it because the color was worn off the bottom. Paint will not effect the boats handleing.

Actually, the paint wasn't worn off. It was just a bit sun-bleached and ugly. I'd suggest paddling a lot of shallow, rocky water. That seems to work wonders. I was easy to track down the river--just follow the blue paint! Of course that method won't help above the waterline. Unless you develop some really odd techniques. Good luck.

Actually, Jim, I bet some fine sandpaper and lots of time is the surest, safest method.
