To any Europeans on the forum or those who've paddled in these areas:

Going to Krakow, Poland next month and wondering where I could get away to paddle a couple of days nearby.

Any info on clubs or places to go would be of great help (What a shame it would be to go there and not paddle!)

wow, wish i was going with you! i havent been there, so all I know are rumors:

Bratislava is BIG-TIME, probably the hardest whitewater course in the world (or so I've heard).

Prague doesn't have much drop, but Ive seen pictures, looks pretty OK.

Liptovsky-Mikulas is pretty famous too (the home of Martikan) but I don't know much about it. And I had no idea they had TWO parks in one city!

Those eastern Europeans LOVE their whitewater parks . . .

Hi,
I've been to Liptovsky Mikulas and Prague many times. Both of them are very good slalom courses.
The one in Mikulas represents, actually, two courses about
450 meters long (I'd call them 'an easy one' and 'a difficult one')that meet each other and flow togetger for another ~250 meters.

Accomodation is at Lodenica Hotel or (I would prefer it, since Lodenica is more than unpretentious) at any of local board and lodging. When in Mikulas, you must visit "Liptovska Isba" restaurant- excellent local food and beer. Bratislava is a few hours drive from Mikulas. I have not had a chance to see the local course , but according to my friends it's very good, more difficult than in LM or Prague.
It's a long distance from Krakow to Prague, but it's worth going there. The slalom course is located not far from Holesovice rail-way
station in a ditrict called Troja, in walking distance from Holesovice metro station. It's a offshoot of Vltava river and has nothing in common with canals in LM or Bratislava. Alden is right- not much
drops, but very interesting anyway.

I also heard a lot of good of Špindlerův Mlýn and Veltrusy(not sure of spelling) the last is very close to Prague.

Krakow actually has a new $3M WW park
( http://www.kkk.krakow.pl/start.html ) and there are many other slalom courses in Poland and on the Dunajec River...
