does anyone know or has anyone heard of some one paddling the NF of the payette in an oc? I know some folks who have run it in a c-1 but my friend and I were wondering if anyone has actually run it in an oc
keep on paddling

I saw a video of Nolan Whitesell and somebody else running it
in maybe the late 80's early 90"s.
That's some stompin' water.

Old Nolan did and so did CT's own Jim Michaud -- either last year or the year before last.

Do you live out there? Is it currently running? I have heard that it runs all summer due to irrigation -- true?

I saw the video of that river on "Paddlequest" -- it looks impressive and also quite shallow. I couldn't help but notice that Jacob's Ladder merits an AW rating of 5.3 at higher levels.

I dont know, if you start running stuff like that -- big and totally not stopping for 5 miles -- it ruins you for the easier stuff! I cant help but think that if you got to like that stuff, and then your buddies want to hit the Deerfield Dryway . . . hmm . . . I guess that's why guys start swimming down the river with surf boards to spice it up.

In fact, that's a good excuse to use when scouting a hard rapid. "well, i'd like to, but if I do run it, the rest of the river will seem boring."

My recollection is that they ran the Lower 5, not the whole run. I may well be wrong, though.

The way I heard it from bob as I recall was that they stopped in a local raft
Place and asked directions which started a you gonna run that in them
We gotta see this. So it was break time at the raft place.

Back in 96 or so, I had a friend (K1) who ran it with some Team D type paddler in an OC-1. K1's comments were 1) it was pretty impressive and 2) OC-1 commented that the hardest (or maybe most tiring) part was the constant bailing.
