paddle shafts

Most of the talk about paddles, and breaking them, seems to be about blades. I was surfing hard on an upstream pry and I managed to significantly warp the shaft of my 'Bob Foote' paddle.

I'd like to get a new a shaft for this blade and grip. Any advice on materials to consider, where to get them, and how to dis-assemble and re-install the pieces?

Thanks, Pat.

This was an old Norse/Bob Foote paddle. The blade is basically constructed right on to the shaft, which is aluminum tubing wrapped in somekind of fiberglass/plastic.

To re-use this blade, I'd have to epoxy a plug (dowel?) into the aluminum tubing and then epoxy on a new shaft.

What experience is there with gluing stuff to aluminum? For example, could I use a wood plug and fiberglass shaft, or am I stuck with an aluminum shaft?

Maybe I should just buy a new paddle.
