haven't paddled one but some folks I know have and said that it's not as slow as it looks and is a fun boat. looking very forward to getting in one myself.. as soon as the drypant "embargo" lifts the one I'll try will finally make it to Montana.

I tried one out a little while ago. It is, in my opinion, dead slow, like the typical spud boat, with the added drawback of being very wet, and, in my opinion really only suitable for park and play.
It is not suited for any kind of river running IMHO.
If you really want an open park and play boat, go for it. For anything else, there are better choices out there.

Slow on flatwater?... try a glassy wave.

Wet?... if you are in a hole what isn't?, can't take waves head on though.

River runner?... depends on the river... forget creeking or big volume stuff, but a smaller boat also doesn't require a huge feature for a good time.

Skill Builder?... absolutely! If you paddle these little tanks (SPFly and Superfly too) you will learn to take advantage of every piece of current you can get your paddle on. Once you get back in a longer and faster boat you will see the water in a whole differnt light. Major bonus... you will learn to go into holes and waves and undoubtably get a great roll, learn to use ends and "play" the river.

Fun?... hades yes!

Just to precise my statement about it, the CU-Fly is a fun boat , however it's use is somewhat limited.
I personally also prefer my open boats to look like a canoe and not like a kayak with a rubber maid tub glued on top of it .
For parkand play I prefer a C1, less bailing involved
Open Rodeo boats are just not my cup of tea, but I likeopen boats as riverrunner/creeker.

...I've spent more time in my Twintip C1 this year than my CU-fly when we go to play spots with good eddy service and I agree... less dumping and wilder action.
When eddy service isn't good I like the fact that I can hit shore.. jump out and carry up quickly... not something I can do the way the C1 is outfitted. The OC play boats are good for folks who aren't a 100% on their roll as well because they can go into something and if the need to bail out is there... plop!
You are correct on the looks... it's no chestnut prospecter by any means... and as much as I enjoy it I still chuckle at the "tote on a boat".

I'd be curious to hear how you feel about your Twintip. I remember you liked how it felt this past winter in the pool, just wondering what your thoughts of it are after paddling for awhile now?

The Twintip is very cool. It does well in a hole, but where it really shines is on a big wave or wave hole. The stability is great (27") and it is "super" loose. We had some super high water levels on obscure rivers this year and whenever the good waves where in I was like a kid with a new bike.
Where in MI. are you. If you ever make it over to WI or the U.P. let me know and you can try it out. We are also hosting the Midwest Freestyle Championships here in Wausau on Aug 20-21, and it is a C-freindly event.... trust me I'm an co-chair and organizer.

The boat sounds great.
Actually, I'm going to be in Wisconsin paddling this weekend. I'm taking a river rescue clinic with some friends on the Red Saturday( maybe playing at Gilmore's afterwards), but am planning on paddling the Wolf-section III on Friday, or just playing at Gilmore's. Sunday looks like playing on the Red (I've never been on the Red and am looking forward to Monastary Falls).
I've got to make it out to Wausau for one of these events. It's hard to get as much time out your way as I would like.
If you're over that way, we're camping at Pine Grove Campground (hope that's right) Saturday night near the Red. I'm not sure where we'll be Friday night or Sunday night (possibly Bear Paw).
I'll be paddling a red Shaman or my Delirious conversion.
