I just converted a Perception Amp for a local kayaker who will hopefully also be converted. I've documented it in pictures, words and dollars - the total spent was just over $50.

He thinks he wants some sort of bulkhead / "lap block". He called it a suicide block, I hope to come up with something less lethal.

I haven't paddled it in it's finished form, but a test paddle at an intermediate step was encouraging. It's a little low volume for me for general purposes, but it sure was easy to throw around...

Look's good, I found in my AMP cutting the kayak thigh pads thing that sticks out into the cockpit off helped me get in and out easyier. I also have the thigh straps coming from back more which helps me keep my butt on the seat and a bulkhead for my knees. I know these are fun boats and are great on the waves. I hope your mate has a lot of fun in it.

Thanks! Yeah, those "ears" for the thigh hooks cut into my leg a little - if it would definitely never go back to K-1, I'd have cut them off, too. The guy paddling it has skinnier legs, so it should be OK.

I was pleasantly surprised at the stability, even with a 7" pedestal. It handles a lot like my Score (similar lines), except it is easier to submerge, which is no surprise given the lower volume.

Looks great. Can I ask you a question, the small abs plate that you have under the pedestal - what purpose does it serve? The larger one at the knees makes sense as you wrap it around the cockpit and attach it w/ bolts... but the other piece under your butt seems rather small.. Do you attach ankle rests to it? Do you glue it to the boat?

The small piece of ABS under the pedestal is for ankles/tops of feet. I glued some of the ABS foam to it for cushioning - the foam is black so it is hard to tell. This way nothing is glued to the boat and there are no new holes - allowing "unconversion" for resale...
