Discovering Japan

Wasn`t that an awesome song? Anyway, I just thought I`d let you all know that I`m paddling awesome whitewater in Japan right now. I paddled the Mitake, Tonegawa, and Saigawa rivers so far. I`ve taught 3 slalom clinics so far. Quaint village scenery and awesome mountain ranges dominate the landscape. The Japanese people must be the most polite and courteous people in the world. It`s a strange concept. I drove through a 10,000 foot mountain pass today on my way to a different hot spring after paddling. Oh yeah, there are over 3,000 hot springs in Japan, and snow covered mountains in August. The food is delicious, so is the sake. The nightlife in Tokyo aint too shabby either. Ever get a spoge bath by a geisha girl? I leave for Hokkaido on Thursday to teach a couple slalom clinics and participate in their biggest race. I`m not sure what river and hot spring we will do tomorrow but I`m sure it will be great. Well that`s all for now.
Ja mata!

Kaz,
Don't get too aclimated to courteous people and submissive females.
The culture shock when you get back home will send you over the edge. I can't wait to see you sipping Saki instead of a beer at the end of a race day.

Sponge it is then. Thanks. No paddling today, just hot springs. Correction, Japan has over 4,000 hot springs. Today we hiked to a hot spring [onsen] at about 6,000 feet in a small village. Tomorrow I leave by ferry to Hokkaido. We will paddle the Sorachi River and something else. I`ll teach 2 clinics and then race in Japan`s largest slalom race. I hope the bears don`t get me.

Kaz,
Don't be such a (hatarakimono). Let the geisha's do it. I hope you get lots of (ame) while you're finishing up your trip. Maybe in Hokkaido, you will get lots of (yuki) instead. Sounds like you're developing an ajiwau for saki. Bring back lots of strange customs to show us. (Kaz bowing and being polite?) Please give Yoshi and his wife my aisatsu suru. Finally, after teaching them, get (abunai) on the race course. Are you paddling a "Spark"? How do they like it? You missed the end of Phish. See you in Manchester.
