Ashlu Creek, Mine Run

Hi boaters,

My friend Joe and I were lucky enough to be able to paddle the Ashlu Creek
near Squamish a couple weeks ago. We paddled the "mine run" which is the easier of the two hard runs on the Ashlu. It's 4+ and has about 5 class 5 drops, two of which are hard to walk.
The full on run is the "commitment canyon", it's 5+ and I had problems breathing by just looking at it.

The Ashlu is a classic BC creek that features stunning beauty and big bedrock drops. It is in danger because a micro hydro project is planned that would destroy the mine run and the commitment canyon.
I encourage all canadian paddlers to support
http://whitewater.org/squish/
in their efforts to save the Ashlu!

I put pictures online at. Some are Kayak, some are C1, all are pretty (I think)

Hope you like them, Jan

I love my Blunt. It would be interesting to hear how it compares to a Huck.
A friend of mine Kayaks a Huck and he likes it a lot, although he is a bit on the heavy side for the Huck.

I especially like the secondary stability. You can paddle it on edge and even if you land a little sideways after a boof, it rightens itself up. When punching holes, one does not have to worry about bracing but can do that extra stroke to pull the boat over the boil line. However, I would like it to have a little less volume in the bow, more like a Nomad maybe.

Yes, I really like it.

Cheers, Jan
