Mitchell Paddles

hey has anyone ever paddled with a mitchell paddle before? i am looking to buy a bunch of them some C-1 for whitewater and some K-1 paddles for canoe polo.

speaking of which, has anyone ever tried canoe polo, i run the Saskatchewan program and its wicked, best cross training for paddling ever..plus its a real fun sport

I've paddled with Mitchell Paddles for 20 years - back when they used a layer of veneer on each side (before they started glassing the blades).

They are great.

I would recommend roped edges - they will take more of a beating.

I've been using the premeir spoon blade with a wood shaft & carbon covered blade. It's a great paddle. Underwater recoveries are incredibly smooth. ctl_cpt is right on about rope edges making it tough as nails. I also like the aluminum tip.

I recently bought an all carbon version of the same paddle. It's lighter & has the same blade as my wood version. Being lighter it automaticly increased my stroke rate since recoveries are quicker.

This may be a goofy question, but why use a K-1 paddle for canoe polo?

The wood shaft, curved carbon blade with glassed (rope) edges and the aluminum tip is the best canoe paddle ever. But the best thing about Mitchell is that their prices and turn around on repairs can't be beat.

Ahhh...i guess you have never heard of the sport before then....Canoe polo is a European invention, thus canoes/kayaks are the same thing.....therefore it is called canoe polo....

plus the 2-handed grip on the K-1 paddle works reallly well for throwing the ball around, i can only imagine how akward throwing the ball with a t-grip might be

I thought the Euro's called a K-1 specifically a "kanu" and all canoes "Canadians". The traditional OC's were for a long time very rare in Europe, where K-2's were the casual flatwater boat of choice., I don't know what distinciton they make today between open & decked, or if they are all just Canadians.

kanu is the whole group of C1, Open Canoe, Kayak
open canoe = Kanadier or Offener Kanadier
kayak = Kayak
C1 = C1...

I played canoe polo before, not competitive. It's tons of fun. I mostly play it in a C1, sometimes in a Kayak...
Great to make pool sessions more exciting.

As a matter of fact Canoe Polo is actually a structured sport in many countries including most of europe and USA and Canada
here in canada, we have dedicated teams, national team trials, tournaments and invitationals, is exciting and lots of fun,
there are even kayaks built specifically for Canoe Polo, somewhat of a rounded out slalom shape.......
i would highly suggest trying real canoe polo as when it is played in C-1 and K-1 it is more of a game of passing, without the real rules, and game play
