Wheelboy outfitting

Post by billcanoes »

Does anyone have any digital photos of their outfitting. I took some, but I wanted to see what other people had done- I'd like to post them to my msn group and/or maybe we can expand the outfitting page here to be much more inclusive.

outfitting

Post by billcanoes »

By the way- in terms of expanding the outfitting page, or adding outfitting photos-the idea was for ALL boat outfittings.(I lose my train of thought too easily these days, sorry folks. ) I know I have really enjoyed checking out the diferrent conversion ideas.

Check out:

For how I outfitted my Wheelboy, including some images.

At some point I'm going to re-vamp the whole outfitting section...if anyone has any images of different ways they'd like to C up there, or other conversion methods, please send them in!!

Adam,

The rear anchor for your thigh straps is far back in that 'flat spot'. Since the strap will pass close to your crotch, are you concerned about your ability to exit the boat in the event you can't roll?

My rear thigh strap anchor is much further forward and it is still difficult for me to exit. :x The further back the rear anchor, the tougher it is to release the thigh straps, no?

SYOTR,
Bruce

P.S. I love my Wheelboy. It is the best boat I've paddled in a long time. Can't wait for the Fatboy.

Well...

what can I say, I have skinny legs  (ok they're not THAT skinny...).

I do not use any type of toe blocks for that very reason-I've found that if the straps hold me in good and tight that I'm still able to get out by pushing UP on my legs (my feet and lower legs slide back) and there is plenty of room then for my knees to get out (really without thinking about it).

I used to have the straps further forward, but they always seemed to loose, and I felt I really needed a "hip grabber" set up, and even then sometimes I pulled myself out of a boat when rolling (and not paying attention...).

You have some Good ideas

Adam,
Thanks for the Outfitting description and photos. :D As I haven't finalized my Wheelboy set-up, it's always great to see what others are doing. I was going to glue in a bulkhead, but your pressed-in idea is intriguing.
I also put the rear anchor for the thigh straps in the "flat spot". Like you I have found it (the attachment point to the rear which makes the thigh strap run close to the crotch) very effective in holding me in the boat when rolling in boils and other messy water that tends to otherwise suck you out of the boat. I haven't had to do any wet exits, but from my experiences releasing the thigh straps when upright, I am not expecting any difficulty. Will try out a wet exit next weekend, and will give feedback if I think there is any problem.
